The changing status of amphibians within Eppping Forest

The British Isles supports seven native species of amphibian. Of these, as a result of their restricted distributions, the Great Crested Newt Triturus cristatus and Natterjack Toad Epidalea (Bufocalamita are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the European Habitats Directive 1992.
